Campi ya Kanzi, one of the ecoLuxury Retreats of the World, was created for the purpose of showing to the local Maasai community that wilderness with thriving wildlife is an economic asset which pays economic dividends to the community.
This concept has been developped further by creating Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT): a community Trust, deeply rooted in the community.

MWCT has been selected as one of the winners of the UN Development Program’s prestigious “Equator Prize“.
Only 25 organizations were selected out of nearly 1,000 nominations received at the end of last year. The Equator Prize is one of the most globally respected acknowledgements of excellence and achievement in community development and local conservation and it puts MWCT in a permanent roster of organizations validated by UNDP which has enormous value for our efforts to partner with high quality organizations and
government agencies as well as for our fundraising.
The prize will be presented at the Rio+20 Conference in Rio in June.
